SKATING AT THE SHIPYARDS

It is a fantastic weekend to hit up one of Vancouver’s outdoor and free skating rinks! The Shipyards rink is located on the waterfront, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. The skate plaza offers free daily skating, as well as free helmets and skate aides. Those with their own skates skate for free, skate rentals are available. Robson Square outdoor ice rink in downtown Vancouver is also open for free skating!
UBC BOTANICAL GARDEN LUNAR NEW YEAR MARKET
Saturday & Sunday 10 am – 4 pm, UBC Botanical Garden
The Lunar New Year Market celebration provides a welcoming space for everyone to learn and experience the beautiful traditions of Lunar New Year. Featuring over 40 local makers and food trucks., UBC Botanical Garden will also offer fresh auspicious flowers, dried floral arrangements, and potted plants for sale. Enjoy a photo booth by Dang Good Booths, an exciting lion dance and kung fu performance by the UBC Kung Fu Club, and participate in workshops like calligraphy, sweet dumpling dessert-making and watercolour painting.

VANCOUVER HOT CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

This chilly weather makes it a great time to check out the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival – a nice reason to get out and enjoy a treat at one of the many local cafes taking part in this event. With over 162 hot chocolate designs featured at 105 locations, there is lots to discover!
CLASSICAL KIDS LIVE! VIVALDI AND THE RING OF MYSTERY
Sunday 2 pm, the Orpheum, Vancouver
Audiences will enjoy more than twenty-five excerpts from Vivaldi’s most popular and important works, including the Four Seasons, the Violin Concerto in A minor, and the Guitar Concerto. The music is magically woven into the drama as two actors solve a mystery built around the historic context of the composer’s real life and his school of the Pieta. This exciting concert and story performance is approximately 50 minutes in length.
BLUSTERY FRASER CANYON SUPER WEEKEND
Saturday 1p am – 1 pm & Sunday 10 am – 4 pm, Fraser River Discovery Centre, New Westminster
Super Weekend is a monthly program geared toward families. There are lots of activities that explore different features of the Fraser River, from its booming industry to its diverse ecosystem! This weekend explore how the unique geography of the Fraser Canyon shapes the weather patterns of the Lower Mainland through engaging science demonstrations, story time and hands-on crafts!
LIGHTS AT LAFARGE
Saturday & Sunday 4 pm – 10 pm, LaFarge Lake, Coquitlam
One of the final holiday light displays you can still check out, this free event encircles the 1.2 km Lafarge Lake loop. It starts at dusk and stays on until 10 pm. Lace up your walking shoes (or slip on your rain boots) and embark on this beautiful lake loop.
LIGHTS TO THE LODGE
Saturday and Sunday, Cypress Mountain
This beautiful snowy snowshoe trek to Hollyburn Lodge is only running for one more week! Enjoy the gorgeous 1.5km trip along a self guided snowshoe trail! The Light to the Lodge loop is lit with LED lights strung sustainably through the forest boughs of ancient Cedar, Fir and Hemlock trees.
