MY WESTCOAST FAMILY

Family Events for the Weekend of March 11 & 12

11.03.2023

It’s the first weekend of Spring Break for most families, and there is lots going on. I wrote a blog post on some great activities going on all March Break long and you can check it out HERE. But below you will find a list of the great events going on specifically this weekend.

POKEMON 2023 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Saturday & Sunday, Vancouver Convention Centre

Pokemon have been big in my house for YEARS now. If you have a son or daughter who is into them (or maybe you are? no judgement), you may want to hit this championship up this weekend. Spectator passes are available at this official Play! Pokémon family-friendly event, competitors will battle for the coveted title of Pokémon Regional Champion, valuable Championship Points, and a portion of up to $50,000 in scholarships and prizes.

CAROUSEL THEATRE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE PRESENTS OZ

Saturday & Sunday 11 am and 2 pm showsWaterfront Theatre

Set in 1899 Chicago, the play is a whimsically imagined backstory for how L. Frank Baum’s best selling children’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, might have been written. Suitable for all ages, Oz is a charming tale of bravery, camaraderie, and, ultimately, finding your place in the world.

ANASTASIA

Saturday & Sunday 2 pm and 8 pm, Queen Elizabeth Theatre

This dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. This is a wonderful show that is most appropriate for kids aged 7 and up.

FAMILY SUNDAY AT THE SURREY ART GALLERY

Sunday 11 am – 3 pm, The Surrey Art Gallery

Drop in to enjoy, learn about and make art with friends and family. Artist educators will inspire you with art activities that explore how we experience space and time through concepts of design, patterning and geometry. Free admission.

PORT MOODY HERITAGE DAY

Sunday 12 pm – 3 pm, Port Moody Station Museum

This event was postponed from February due to snow. The Port Moody Station Museum is hosting a free, family-friendly event featuring interactive activities for all to enjoy. No registration required. Visitors can look forward to an old-fashioned malt shop in our train car, testing out their skills at a typewriter, and other glimpses into historic Port Moody.
