Family Events for the Weekend of June 25 & 26

We have finally reached the first weekend of summer, and it actually comes with summer weather! Hooray for a little sun and heat! Here’s what’s going on for the weekend of June 25 and 26.

GREEK DAY ON BROADWAY

Sunday, 11 am – 9 pm, Broadway from Macdonald to Blenheim

The largest one-day Greek festival in Vancouver. A five block stretch on West Broadway, measuring almost one kilometer is closed off to traffic to make room for a world of delicious Greek food and drink, market vendors, entertainment and live music.

CONCORD PACIFIC DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

Saturday and Sunday 9 am – 6 pm, Creekside Park

Kick off summer with us at Concord Pacific Place, Creekside Park, and False Creek with the continent’s best racing, headliner music shows, cultural pavilions, food vendors and lots of family friendly activities.

TRAIN STATION AND CABOOSE OPENING WEEKEND

Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 4pm, Mackin House, Coquitlam

After a long winter sleep the Fraser Mills Train Station and our CP Rail 1970s Caboose is open for summer season tours. Free admission.

PACIFIC RIM KITE FESTIVAL

Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 4 pm, Garry Point Park, Steveston

Head out to see kites of all shapes and sizes, from simple diamond kites to a 30-foot rainbow bowl, from Japanese rokkaku to Indian fighter kites. Visitors can watch performances such as sport kites being flown in formation to music, in addition to hands-on activities in the Kite Making Workshop tent. The festival is free and open for all.

SCANDINAVIAN MIDSOMMER FESTIVAL

Saturday 10 am – 11 pm and Sunday 10 am – 4 pm, Scandanavian Community Centre, Burnaby

Viking village, a hobby horse race, nordic baking, a market place, a pancake breakfast, beer garden and even a wife carrying contest.

15TH ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR PICNIC

Saturday, 11 am – 2 pm, St. Andrew’s Park, North Vancouver

Free and open to everyone! Bring your teddy bear and join the fun with a Music with Marnie performance, clowns, face painting, teddy pair clinic, cookie decorating and storytelling.

CULTUS LAKE DAY

Saturday 8:30 am – 11 pm, Cultus Lake Park, Main Beach

This community event will be held at Cultus Lake Park’s Main Beach featuring live music, local breweries and children’s attractions! Kick off the day with a pancake breakfast by donation, followed by a parade.

ROYAL CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL CIRCUS

Saturday and Sunday, Cloverdale Fair Grounds, Surrey

Jam-packed with explosive live entertainment, featuring high-flying acrobatics, death-defying tricks, towering feats of strength, teetering towers of balanced bodies, extreme bending and devilishly precarious aerials! Tickets range from $35 to $50.
