A quieter weekend and that’s probably okay given the current state of things. What a strange limbo we are in right now – post holidays, kids not back at school yet, snow, rain, slush, so many people getting sick. Stay safe, choose a distanced, maybe outdoor activity. Here are a few going on for the weekend of January 8 and 9. Here’s hoping there are better weekends ahead!
LIGHTS AT LAFARGE
Saturday and Sunday, Lafarge Lake, Coquitlam
Need a cheery outdoor activity? Head to Coquitlam and enjoy a beautifully lit loop around the lake. Stroller friendly and great for all ages. It runs until the end of January.
CANYON LIGHTS
Saturday and Sunday, Capilano Suspension Bridge
If you missed visiting the lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge over the holidays, you still have a chance. A great outing with the kids, climb up among the trees and enjoy all of the gorgeous light displays.
OUTDOOR SKATING
Saturday and Sunday, Robson Square and The Shipyards
Skating is a great activity right now. There are lots of public skate times open at the indoor rinks and there are also the two outdoor, free rinks – Robson Square downtown and The Shipyards rink in North Vancouver.
CHRISTMAS TREE CHIP-UPS
Have your live Christmas tree and need to do something with it? There are a bunch of tree chip-ups for charity happening around the Lower Mainland. Put those kids to good use and have them help you haul the tree out to one of them! There’s the Richmond Firefighters Tree Chip at Garry Point, the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Chip Up, the Kingsgate Mall Chip Up, Tsawwassen Lions Club Chipping Event, North Shore Scouts Chipping Event, Surrey Firefighters Annual Chip Up, UBC Botanical Garden Chipping Event, Lions Club Chipping Events at the Kerrisdale Community Centre, Kitsilano Beach, Trout Lake, and King George Secondary School.
