Anyone else having trouble believing we are already at May long weekend? I think it’s the fact that it has been such a cold and wet spring so far. Here’s hoping the weather starts turning around this weekend! Here are the family events taking place over the long weekend holiday.
OUTDOOR POOLS OPENING FOR THE SEASON
All weekend long, New Brighton Pool and Second Beach Pool
The chilly spring weather we have been having doesn’t really scream “outdoor pool season”, but May long weekend is when Vancouver’s public pools typically open for the summer. Unfortunately Kits Pool is closed this summer due to repairs, but both New Brighton Pool and Second Beach Pool open on Saturday. Tickets can be booked online starting now. Maple Grove Pool and Hillcrest Outdoor Pool will open mid June.
BRAID STREAT FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL
Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 8 pm, 97 Braid Street, New Westminster
Come enjoy your favourite food trucks or shop local merchants. Accessible by bike, foot, bus, Skytrain, car share or your own vehicle. Bring your own blanket, lawn chair or tailgate. Partial proceeds will be donated to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
MAY DAY FORT LANGLEY
Monday, 8:30 am – 4 pm, Fort Langley Community Park
Lots of family fun to be had on the holiday monday! Starting with a pancake breakfast, then a parade, speeches from the May Queen and dignitaries, May Pole Dancing, various vendors, food, rides for the kids, Mini Golf and even a Beer Garden.
BURNABY VILLAGE MUSEUM: 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
Monday, 11 am – 4:30 pm, Burnaby Village Museum
The museum is open to visit all weekend long, but on Monday you can expect some extra special activities to celebrate 50 years since the museum opened. Free admission, carousel rides are $2.65.
FOREST FAIRY GATHERING
Saturday, 11 am – 3 pm, Burnaby Lake Regional Park
Drop by this free event to meet fairies who live unseen in the park and help build new homes for them with supplies from Gnome Depot. Join Storytime at the mushroom circle with the Burnaby Public Library, search for hidden fairy friends, and take part in the Elf Olympics trail walk. Fairy attire welcome.
JURASSIC QUEST
Saturday – Monday, Abbotsford Trade Ex
Jurassic Quest is North America’s largest and most realistic Dinosaur event. Guests will walk through the Cretaceous period, the Jurassic Period and The Triassic period and experience for themselves what it was like to be among living, breathing dinosaurs.
WHISTLER CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL
Saturday and Sunday, Maury Young Arts Centre, Village Stroll, Whistler
There’s fun for the whole family in this action-packed weekend of creativity. With dozens of workshops, live musical performances, and a host of activities, kids and adults alike can let their imaginations run wild!
ALL BRITISH CLASSIC CAR SHOW
Saturday, 10 am – 4:30 pm, Van Dusen Gardens
An entertaining gathering of British-built classic cars, exhibitors and vendors will be on display at the Great Lawn. Featured marque anniversary celebrations. You can also book high tea to enjoy.
RICHMOND NIGHT MARKET
Saturday 6 pm – 12 am, Sunday 7 pm – 11 pm, 8351 River Road, Richmond
Enjoy the largest Night Market in North America. Enjoy delicious food, awesome deals and wonderful entertainment! There are over 200 retail and food vendors and fun games area.
ZOO DAY AT GRANVILLE ISLAND
Sunday 12:30 pm, Kids Market, Granville Island
A fun free event where kids can learn all about the wonders of animals with two 30 minute shows at 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm. Plus stay after for a meet and greet with the animals.
