Family Events for Mother’s Day Weekend

I want to wish a very happy mother’s day to all of you wonderful and hardworking moms out there. It’s the best job in the world but it sure isn’t easy and we are are certainly worth celebrating. Here is my guide to what is going on in and around Vancouver over Mother’s Day weekend, May 7 and 8.

CITYFEST

Saturday, 11 am – 3 pm,  The Shipyards, North Vancouver

This festival features over 400 local youth performers and competitors showcasing their talents in music, dance, drama, fashion, and film. As well, the event includes food booths, a longboard race, and well-run skateboarding competition, the largest of its kind in Metro Vancouver.

COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY

Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 8 pm, Coquitlam Town Centre

Community Block Party will be making 4 stops this Spring with Coquitlam being one of them! There will be FREE entry, 20+ food trucks, local market vendors courtesy of BC Shop Local, live music and entertainment, and much more!

HASTINGS RACE COURSE REOPENS

Saturday, 2 pm – 7 pm, Hastings Race Course

Hastings Race Course is reopening this weekend! Enjoy food, drinks, a live DJ, a photo wall, and a best-dressed contest where the prize is a $100 betting voucher. Plus, there will be exciting horse racing throughout the afternoon. This is a fun event for all ages! Families are welcome.

BURNABY VILLAGE REOPENS FOR THE SEASON

Saturday and Sunday, 11 am – 4 pm, Burnaby Heritage Village Museum

I recently wrote a blog post all about this great family destination. This could be a great place to head for Mother’s Day, and best part…it’s free!

VANCOUVER CANADIANS BASEBALL

Saturday and Sunday, first pitch at 1:05 pm, Nat Bailey Stadium Vancouver

Join the Vancouver Canadians for Mother’s Day on May 8, plus other great games this week. Plus you’ll get to enjoy hot dogs, burgers, popcorn and all other ballpark favourites with a cold beer. Tickets can be purchased online.

RICHMOND NIGHT MARKET

Saturday 6 pm – 12 am, Sunday 7 pm – 11 pm8351 River Road, Richmond

The Largest Night Market in North America is back! Enjoy delicious food, awesome deals and wonderful entertainment! There will be over 200 retail and food vendors and fun games area.

GREENDALE ACRES OPENING WEEKEND

Saturday, 10 am – 6 pm, 41905 Yale Rd W, Chilliwack

The farm formerly known as ‘The Chillwack Corn Maze’ is reopening for the season this Saturday. The farm will be open every Saturday throughout May and June. There is so much fun to be had on this farm – giant jumping pillows, pedal carts, indoor hay bale maze, tractor rides, farm animals and more. And this saturday you can book a mini photo shoot among the apple blossoms, and there are free pancakes and coffee for Moms!!!

BURNABY BLOOMS

Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm, Deer Lake Park and Shadbolt Centre for the Arts

Festival highlights on May 7 include an eco-art installation curated by local artist Nickie Lewis, educational walking tours, speaker series, local entertainment, plant sales and activities for all ages.

SCIENCE RENDEZVOUS

Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm, University of British Columbia 

Head to the University of British Columbia for the FREE Science Rendezvous – a family festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the street. Have some hands-on fun with make-and-take projects, live science demonstrations, interactive exhibits, robotics, virtual reality, math games and more

FINGERLING FESTIVAL

Saturday, 11 am – 3 pm, Port Moody Recreation Complex

Held at Noons Creek and the Port Moody skating arena. Help release 40,000 young chum into Noons Creek and view displays from environmental groups in the lower mainland. Enjoy the music, children’s activities, food, and fun!

MAY DAYS PARADE AND PARTY IN THE SQUARE

Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm, Leigh Square, Port Coquitlam

Live entertainment, a May Days market featuring local artisans, food trucks and a beverage garden, a kids zone with crafts and activities, and student art exhibition and more.
