Family Events for the Weekend of March 26 & 27

We’ve made it to the final weekend of Spring Break. I hope all the parents survived and some good memories were made! There is still lots of great things going on this weekend, here is my guide to the family events for March 26 and 27.

DANCE ON ICE SKATING WORKSHOP

Saturday 5:30 pm, Kitsilano Ice Rink 

Do you have any aspiring olympians in your family? Dance on Ice is a combined dance and skating workshop at an ice rink for skaters of all levels. Beginner and intermediate skaters – 5:30 – 6:50 pm – $35. Intermediate and advanced skaters – 6:50 – 8:10 pm – $35

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL’S ALEGRIA

Saturday and Sunday, Concord Pacific Place, Vancouver

Did you know that a new Cirque is in town?! It all kicks off this weekend and runs until May 1. Cirque shows aren’t cheap but they never cease to amaze. A wonderful way to wrap up spring break with the family!

SPRING DAYS AT THE FRDC

Saturday and Sunday, Fraser River Discovery Centre, New Westminster

Head to the FRDC to learn more about salmon and what it takes for them to survive. In this weekend’s activity explore the characteristics of a healthy river system before making your very own fish out of clay! All the tools and materials are provided – all you need to bring is your creativity and imagination! Pre registration is required.

LIVE IN THE LAB – MINI MUD MONSTERS

Saturday and Sunday, Britannia Mine Museum, Sea to Sky

This is the final weekend for this special spring break programming at the Britannia Mine Museum.  After touring the mine, the kids can head to the lab to learn about “mini mud monsters” that live at the bottoms of creeks, rivers, and wetlands.

WEST COAST AMUSEMENTS TRAVELING CARNIVAL

Saturday 12 pm – 10 pm and Sunday 12 pm – 6 pm, Chilliwack Coliseum 

Canada’s biggest travelling carnival is back and is in Chilliwack this weekend. Lots of midway games and amusement rides to enjoy.

BC VINTAGE TO MODERN TOY EXPO

Saturday 10 am – 3 pm, Vancouver Flea Market, 703 Terminal Ave

A fun event to check out some very cool toys – both new and old.

CELTIC FEST SURREY

Saturday 1 pm – 4 pm, Museum of Surrey

Join the festivities! There will be small performances throughout the day with Kyle Banta on bagpipe and Allen Barnett on accordion. Visit booths from Steele School of Dance, Ireland Canada Monument, White Spot Pipe Band, West Coast Calligraphy Society, Irish School Vancouver and more. Do a scavenger hunt to earn a prize, finding the Celtic nation flags in the galleries. Check out a Celtic textile display by the MOS Textiles Team. Even bring home a Celtic knot craft.
