The last few weekends of October are really jam-packed with a ton of fun family activities taking place! Here’s my list of what’s going on for the weekend of October 16-17.
PUMPKIN PATCHES AND CORN MAZES
Have you hit up a pumpkin patch yet? There is still lots of time to choose a pumpkin or enjoy the outdoor activities at some of these farms. Head to my blog post (linked in heading above) for a complete list of the best ones around the Lower Mainland – there are so many to choose from!
LOUTET FARM PUMPKIN PATCH FUNDRAISER
Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm , 1400 ave Rufus Ave, North Vancouver
Head to the annual pumpkin patch at Loutet Farm. Bring your family to pick a pumpkin and celebrate the weekly Loutet Farm Community Market! There will be activities for kids, farm tours, tons of local vendors, and live music from the Pacific Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Society.
SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN MARKET
Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm, 6050 176th st, Surrey
Calling ghosts and goblins of all ages to this Halloween Market. Admission is by donation to the Surrey Hospitals Foundation. 50+ vendors, food, music, balloon twister, face painter, cotton candy, bounce house and raffle!! Special guest appearance by Chase and Mario.
MARKET SUNDAY AND MINI OKTOBERFEST
Sunday, 10 am – 3 pm, Clayton Community Farmer’s Market, Surrey
80+ local vendors including fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey, organic eggs, bread, bagels and pastries, perogies, vegan fare, jams and condiments, artisan crafts, body products, jewelry and so much more! PLUS: A Mini-Oktoberfest celebration with German Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, and Soft Bavarian Pretzels.
PANCAKES AND PUMPKIN PATCH
Sunday, 9 am – 1 pm, West Vancouver Community Centre
A fun fall-themed fundraising event including a pumpkin patch with pumpkin sales, individual pancake breakfast sales, live music and more!
BEAR CREEK SCREAM TRAIN
Saturday and Sunday, 6:30 pm – 10 pm, Bear Creek Park, Surrey
This spooky train ride through a haunted forest is recommended for ages 12 and up. Book your tickets online. $14.70/person.
WIZARDLAND
Saturday and Sunday, Richmond Lavenderland, 8460 Steveston Hwy
A brand new attraction. Walk around our Harvestland, filled with interesting and fun autumn decorations. Afterwards, you may enter Wizardland, where you can decorate your own wand, and other crafts. Food trucks and a candy shop means there is something for everyone. $10 per person, 3 years old and under free.
WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
Presentation House Theatre, North Vancouver
This is a fresh version of Where the Wild Things Are, Presentation House Theatre’s wildly popular show for the very young. Imaginatively adapted to suit current public health orders, Max and his adventures safely bring pure wonder and wow to everyone in the family. For ages 3-6.
EDGEMONT HAUNT
Saturday and Sunday, 12 pm – 9:30 pm, 3414 Emerald Drive, North Vancouver
An outdoor haunt display located in North Vancouver. Live actors, creepy crawlies, and terrifying sounds await those brave enough to venture inside. By donation, money raised goes towards the burn fund.
GREATER VANCOUVER ZOO
Saturday and Sunday, 9 am – 5 pm, Greater Vancouver Zoo, Aldergrove
Some special Halloween themed events running until October 31 such as the Halloween train, scavenger hunt and face painting on the weekend.
WHONNOCK LAKE GIANT PUMPKIN CARVING COMPETITION
Sunday, 1 pm – 3 pm, Whonnock Lake, Maple Ridge
A free family friendly event. Pick up your pumpkin guessing card and make your best guess as to how much each of the pumpkins weigh. Hand in your card to enter to win prizes from some fabulous local businesses. Enjoy a cupcake made by Cakes By Jada and a cup of hot chocolate while you watch the weighing of the pumpkins.
FAMILY FOREST WALK IN PACIFIC SPIRIT PARK
Saturday, 10 am – 11:30 am, Pacific Spirit Park, Vancouver
Admission is by donation but families must pre-register online, join the volunteers from the Eco Education group at the Pacific Spirit Park Society on a scavenger hunt for interesting forest treasures. Learn about your local forest and its cool creatures.
THE HAUNTED SEA
Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Steveston
The historic cannery in Steveston celebrates Halloween with a month-long installation of The Haunted Sea. Encounter what lurks below the waves and is haunting our oceans and sea life. Explore the many layers of the ocean in the magically transformed Herring Reduction Plant, and discover colourful undersea decor created from upcycled materials kept from haunting the real ocean depths. Drop-in any time to explore at your leisure. Suitable for kids of all ages.
