The first weekend is fall is upon us and there is lots going on around the Lower Mainland. A number of pumpkin patches and fall festivals are taking place and you can find links to a recent blog post I did regarding that just below. Hoping everyone has a great weekend, here are the best family events for the weekend of September 25-26.
Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes
There are a number of pumpkin patches now open for the season, while some are waiting for October 1st to open up. Head to my latest blog post (linked in heading above) for a complete list of the best ones around the Lower Mainland, and check out which ones are open for visits this weekend.
Shipyards Festival
Saturday, 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Lower Lonsdale
The one-day, FREE event will feature four music stages that will see concerts played throughout the day. Performances include Bedouin Soundclash, The Zolas, and Astrocolour, to name a few. In addition to live concerts, the festival will also include activities and attractions such as a Seaspan Family Zone, face-painting, balloon art, and crafts.
Dragon Boat Festival Championship Weekend
Saturday, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, False Creek and Concord Pacific Place
Check out world class dragon boat racing in False Creek which takes place from 10 am until 4 pm and take in music, culture and art on the shores of False Creek running until 7 pm, free admission.
Riverfest: Celebrate the Fraser
Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Fraser River Discovery Centre, New Westminster
RiverFest is a FREE family-friendly festival coinciding with BC and World Rivers Day. The Fraser River Discovery Centre is hosting the Discovery Zone to find all kinds of exciting activities. Learn to tie knots, crack codes, or build a plant! Try your hand at the Fraser River Gold Toss! Learn about aquatic environments with our illustrated colouring sheets! And so much more! Entry is free for the weekend.
Saturday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, New West boardwalk
Sure to be a ton of fun along the boardwalk with a full line-up of musical performances, exhibitor booths, and interactive activities.
Riverside Cranberries Tour
Saturday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Riverside Cranberry Farm, Langley City
Tickets available for online booking ahead of time only, do the harvest walk, listen to the audio tour, snap some photos and buy from the farm booth.
Fire Dragon Festival
Saturday, 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden
The Fire Dragon Festival is celebrated at a few different locations in Chinatown, but at Dr. Sun Yat-Set Garden you can expect Fire Dragon Festival Workshops & Activities, cultural performances and Awakening of the Fire Dragon, Demo & Festivities.
Farmer’s Markets
Saturday and Sunday, Riley Park, Trout Lake, West End, Kitsilano, and Mount Pleasant
The farmer’s markets will be open until the end of October so be sure to check them out. Head to the website to check the dates and times of each location. There are a number to choose from and that fall harvest is looking so good, so shop local!
UBC Farm also has a great Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 11 am – 2:00 pm, check out more info on that event here.
