I want to wish everyone who is celebrating, a very happy Lunar New Year! The year of the tiger kicks off on Tuesday, February 1st and if you are looking for some Lunar New Year celebrations, there are a few on the calendar for this weekend. LUNARFEST VANCOUVER
Saturday and Sunday, various locations
A selection of events taking place throughout Vancouver celebrating the Lunar New Year. There is a Lantern City installation up next to the Vancouver Art Gallery and another Lantern City at Ocean Art Works on Granville Island.
CELEBRATIONS AT DR. SUN-YAT-SEN CHINESE CLASSICAL GARDEN
Saturday and Sunday, open 10 am – 3 pm, Dr. Sun-Yat-Sen Garden, Chinatown
Explore the corridors enhanced by traditional lanterns, enter a poetry competition to win unique prizes, place your hopes and dreams for the new year on a wishing tree, contemplate the Garden’s unique collection of Tiger items and be a part of a Scavenger Hunt. There will be a special lion dance performance by the Hon Hsing Athletic Club of Vancouver on Saturday from 1pm-2pm. Buy your tickets online ahead of time to ensure a spot (there are capacity limits)
SUPER SATURDAYS: MIGHTY MACHINES
Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm, Fraser River Discovery Centre
HOT CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL
Have you tried out any of the decadent drinks on the menu at this year’s Hot Chocolate Festival. You can check out 100 different hot chocolate designs at 67 participating locations. Head to the website to see all the participating locations.
SOAR OVER TAIWAN
