Happy weekend of love! Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? I’m all for any occasion where I potentially be gifted chocolates. Or maybe at your house, your family is celebrating Super Bowl Sunday more than romance. Either way – whether its football or love (or both), I wish you all a great weekend. Here is what is going on for families around Vancouver for the weekend of February 12 and 13.
LOVE LIGHTS
Saturday and Sunday, The Capilano Suspension Bridge
From February 4-28 head to the Capilano Suspension Bridge to enjoy a Valentine’s theme light-up experience. Imagine the Christmas lights event but re-worked for sweethearts. Remember for BC residents, one admission is the same price as a yearly membership. So even if you didn’t hit up the Christmas lights this year, go to the Valentine’s event and your membership will get you in next holiday season too!
RIVER BASIN DAYS: TYNEHEAD REGIONAL PARK
Saturday 2 pm – 3pm, Tyne Head Regional Park, Surrey
Held on the second Saturday of every month, ‘River Basin Days’ is a series of outdoor public programs hosted by the Fraser River Discovery Centre, geared towards families. Join us at rotating locations around the Fraser River Basin as we explore this incredible watershed. Pre-registration is required.
HOT CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL
All weekend, Various locations
This is the last weekend of Vancouver’s Hot Chocolate festival. The last day is Valentine’s Day. Have you tried out any of the different hot chocolate creations yet? I sampled kind of a crazy wasabi hot chocolate down at A La Mode on Granville Island. A friend just highly recommended the tropical hot chocolate at Honolulu Coffee in Kerrisdale, so I’m thinking I might give that one a try this weekend!
FAMILY DEAL AT THE VANCOUVER AQUARIUM
Saturday and Sunday during operating hours, The Vancouver Aquarium
From February 11 to the 21st, you can get a free child’s admission ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. Visiting the aquarium is wonderful (one of our favourite outings), but it isn’t cheap, so this is a great deal to take advantage of!
UBC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL VS TRU
Saturday, 3 pm, War Memorial Gym, UBC
The UBC women’s basketball team hosts their final regular season home game against Thompson Rivers University. This is a great place to enjoy some quality basketball with the kids. Tickets are free but must be reserved online.
SUPER BOWL…BUT FOR THE HALFTIME SHOW
Sunday 3:30 pm kick-off
Yeah, yeah it’s a big football game but I’m here for the snacks and this year, definitely the HALF TIME SHOW. So consider this your heads up that if you are around the same age(ish) as I am, you will want to check out this show – Dr.Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige and more. Flare jeans and 90s fashion is back, and now so is the music, have fun introducing your kids to the hits.
