Family Events for the Weekend of December 11-12

It is another very, busy weekend of holiday events! We will be checking out Canyon Lights this weekend and I’ve got my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates (fingers crossed, but not holding my breath). If you want some ideas of what is going on, here is my list for the weekend of December 11-12.

THE SNOWMAN

Sunday 2 pm, The Orpheum Theatre

This Oscar-nominated, magical animation for children, is told entirely through coloured pencil illustrations and beautiful music. Part of a family holiday concert in the Orpheum with the music performed live by the VSO.

KITSMAS TIME ON YEW

Saturday 12 pm – 8 pm and Sunday 12 pm – 6 pm, 4th avenue

A free event along West 4th avenue with a ton going on! Live entertainment, a Jingle Bar (this one is for the parents), photos and letters to Santa, Kitsmas Lane and photo walk, wreath making and gift wrapping station too!

CHRISTMAS LIGHT UP PARADE ALDERGROVE

Saturday, 3 pm – 8 pm, Downtown Aldergrove

Elks Children’s Christmas Celebration, Aldergrove Christmas Light Up Parade and Carol Singing in the Aldergrove Plaza. The chidren’s celebration takes place from 3 – 5:30 pm, the parade starts at 6 pm.

A MERRY SPECIAL HOLIDAY MOVIE WITH SANTA

Saturday 11 am, The Hollywood Theatre, 3123 W Broadway, Vancouver

Enjoy a holiday movie with Santa at the Hollywood Theatre, and a cinematic adventure to the North Pole! This festive event includes photos with Santa, The Polar Express film, community exhibits and activities, merchant prizes and more.

SOAR WITH SANTA AT FLYOVER CANADA

Saturday and Sunday, Canada Place

Fly with Santa and his elves on a magical flight across Canada and on to the North Pole! After meeting some of Santa’s elves, Chestnut and Pinecone, you’ll join them as they take flight across Canada looking for their fellow elves. You may even get a sneak peek of Santa’s Workshop as you soar over the North Pole.

BEAR CREEK PARK CHRISTMAS TRAIN

Saturday and Sunday, Bear Creek Park, Surrey

This is opening weekend for the Bear Creek Park Christmas Train. An enchanting train ride through interactive themed displays and take a selfie with Santa. Enjoy some hot chocolate, music, holiday crafts, treats and much much more. Tickets are $11.50, and children 2 and under are free.

CHRISTMAS AT CANADA PLACE

Saturday and Sunday, 8 am – 10 pm, Canada Place

Check out this outdoor experience featuring the historic Woodward’s Windows and Avenue of Christmas Trees. There are also delicious holiday recipes, a special holiday-themed Sails of Light display and Canada’s North light display. The displays are open all day but the light displays are better seen after dark.

WINTER PLAZA PARTY

Saturday, 2 pm – 5 pm, Point Grey Village, West 10th and Sasamat

Kids crafts, prize draws, free hot chocolate and cookies, seasonal entertainment, Santa visits at 3 pm

VISITS WITH SANTA IN DUNBAR

Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm, Save on Foods Parking Lot, 41st and Dunbar

Come and visit with Santa and bring a donation to the Vancouver Food Bank. Photos with Santa are inside a tent, masks and vaccination card for ages 12 plus. Face masks can be temporarily removed for photos.

CHRISTMAS IN KERRISDALE

Saturday, 12 pm – 4 pmKerrisdale Village along 41st in Vancouver

Get some holiday shopping done while enjoying strolling brass bands, Christmas carols and holiday horse and carriage rides.

BELCARRA BAY LIGHTSHOW AND SANTA VISIT ASHORE

Saturday 7 pm – 9 pm, Belcarra Regional Public Park

Every year, Santa and his Christmas Ships come to visit the areas of Port Moody, Ioco, Belcarra, Dollarton, Deep Cove, Bedwell Bay and Woodlands. On Saturday it is Belcarra’s turn.

CHRISTMAS CONVOY PARADE

Saturday 7 pm, Maple Ridge

Grab the hot chocolate, a lawn chair and a cozy blanket. Wait for the lit-up convoy to drive by and show some love by waving! The route is posted in the linked title above.

A WINTER HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

Saturday 1 pm – 5 pm, 181 Roundhouse Mews, The Roundhouse Community Centre

The Breakfast with Santa is now sold out, but the afternoon Christmas party is open to everyone, drop-in and free. There will be photos with Santa, cookie decorating, seasonal crafts, letters to Santa and live music.

THE OTHER AMAZING, ONGOING HOLIDAY EVENTS

There are also all of the other ongoing holiday events that kicked off in previous weeks such as : the Festival of Lights at Van Dusen Gardens, Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Bright Nights Christmas Train in Stanley Park, Dundarave Festival of Lights , Heritage Christmas at the Burnaby Village Museum, Surrey Holiday LightsLights at LaFargeGlow Gardens in Langley, the Steveston Festival of Trees, Lumagica at the Cloverdale Fair Grounds, PNE Winter Lights, and outdoor skating at Robson Square and the Shipyards.
