I am excited to present the second edition of the MEET MY NEIGHBOURHOOD series. This post comes courtesy of mother of two, Joanna who is introducing us to her family’s favourite spots in White Rock.

Hi there! I’m Joanna. My husband Dave and I have lived in White Rock with our two kids for almost 10 years now. We love our ‘city by the sea’ and are so happy we made the decision to move to the ‘burbs’. Here are some of our favourite places around the neighbourhood.
Centennial Park
Centennial Park is a newly renovated playground, with a small workout area, dog park and forest trail that leads right down to West Beach! There are also soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis and pickleball courts around the corner from the arena and a curling rink.

Redwood Park
Two words that we use to describe this awesome park are 1. Fairy and 2. Doors. This park has a small playground but it is really well known for the trails that lead to the hundreds of decorated fairy houses. Made by local preschool classes who spend their time in the park, your kids will have a wonderful time picking out which one they like the best. Don’t be shy and bring one to leave it for others to enjoy!

White Rock Waterfront
This is my all time favourite place to take friends and family when they come to visit. I’m so proud to live in this beautiful place and grateful to be so close to the water. If visiting I recommend starting at East Beach, walk the promenade, and end at the Pier on West Beach. Fun fact! The big white boulder that you see near the pier is the reason our city is called White Rock! It would be hard to miss the 486 ton granite boulder that was kept white by the shellfish eating birds whose “guano” covered the rock. So much so that the 19th century sailors used it as a beacon. It is now kept white through monthly applications of white paint by the city parks department.

Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest Trail
This is a great walk for any of your family members. The Urban Forest Trail is around 4 kilometers long and an easy one hour walking circuit. We love the “Chickadee Loop” which just happens to take you to the parking lot of Dairy Queen at the halfway point. You’ve earned it.
Laura’s Coffee Corner
This local coffee shop has become a staple in the community. Laura’s has a variety of fresh baked goods, brunch and lunch eats, as well as a large variety of hot and cold yummy beverages to choose from. I must say, the best London Fog drinks in town.

White Rock Farmer’s Market
The White Rock Farmer’s Market runs every Sunday from 10am to 2pm, from May to October and moves indoors for 9 markets during November & December. This is a must visit. Local farmers offer fresh produce and yummy treats, while others have their unique goods for sale.
