Meet My Neighbourhood: Langley

09.02.2022

Welcome to the latest edition of the Meet My Neighbourhood blog series! The first neighbourhood spotlight for 2022 comes to us from Kim Lockhart, a super-mom who is introducing readers to her favourite spots in Langley.

Kim, Andrew and their beautiful children, including baby Jethro, the latest addition, who made his appearance just weeks ago.

Hi, my name is Kim. I am wife to Andrew and mom to 6! I have 5 beautiful kids at home and 1 son who was stillborn in 2017. When I’m not out on an adventure with my crew, you can find me behind the camera with Lockhart Photography. My other passion project is the Butterfly Run Vancouver, which is a memorial walk and run which raises awareness about pregnancy loss, infant loss and infertility.

My kiddos have a lot of energy so we are always in search of something fun and out exploring our neighbourhood. Living in Langley is ideal for our busy family – there is so much to do! We are lucky to live walking distance from some breathtaking forests and rivers, my kids can spend hours climbing trees and throwing rocks in the river. The other thing we love about where we live is how close we are to the ocean. It’s just a short drive to be in White Rock where we love to catch a low tide and find sea creatures. Downtown Langley has so many great shops (you have to check out the Mural walk). We also love historic Fort Langley which is so cute and has the best restaurants and cafes. Here are some of my favourite places to head with the kids.

Langley Event Centre Playground

Located at 200 St & 78 Ave – this is a brand new gigantic 3 story playground and is fully fenced, which is important with little ones! There is also a smaller play structure for toddlers. The park has a splash park right there for summer time play. The only downside is there’s not a ton of shade, so in the summer months you have to bring along a pop tent or umbrella.

Williams Park

Williams Park is located at 238 St & 68 ave. There are endless trails to explore here and the creek is a perfect place to play and cool down in summer with little kids – it’s shallow enough to wade in and there is lots of shade. There is also an amazing new playground which is all wood features and nature based which we love. You can definitely pack a picnic and go for the whole day! (They also have an amazing free Christmas lights drive through event at Williams Park every December that is worth checking out)

Penzer Parkour Park

Penzer Parkour Park can be found at 198 St & 48 Ave. This is an adventure park with something for everyone! There is an in-ground trampoline, balance beams, rock climbing walls and so much more. There is a full size basketball court, a skatepark and a BMX dirt track – so bring the scooters and bikes for this spot! There is also a smaller parkour park area that is more for the 5 and under crowd – with wood beams & rocks and spiderweb structures to climb on. If you have sporty kids you will LOVE this spot.

Walnut Grove Park and Splash Pad

Walnut Grove park and splash pad is located on Walnut Grove Drive and 88 ave just behind Walnut Grove secondary school. This is one of our favourite spots in the summer time as the splash park is fully fenced and there is a river that runs through. It’s a great spot to bring along your water toys and buckets to play. There are also two playgrounds close by – one for bigger kids and one for toddlers. This park provides lots of shade, so this is a regular spot where we pack a picnic and come for the whole day.

Brydon Park and Brydon Lagoon

Brydon Park (198St & 53Ave) and Brydon Lagoon (197 St & 53 Ave) are best when visited together! Brydon Lagoon is a short walk around a pond and is great for kids and toddlers. Bring your bird seed for this one as there are lots of ducks to feed at the pond. There are plenty of benches where you can sit, have a snack and take in the scenery. Then, just a block away is Brydon Park – which is on a bit of a busy corner (not ideal if you have runners) but this park is brand new and so cool- lots of climbing structures and a merry go round. Our favourite feature at this park is the zip line that takes you through the trees!
