Family Events for the Weekend of April 2 & 3

Welcome to the first weekend of April! Here’s hoping we get a little more sun and a little less rain this month. There is a lot going on this weekend to check out. Here’s my guide to the family friendly events for April 2 and 3.

VANCOUVER CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL: THE BIG PICNIC

Saturday 10 am – 4 pm, David Lam Park

Bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy while relaxing under the cherry blossoms right in the heart of the city in the Yaletown neighbourhood while enjoying a superb line-up of local talent on the Cherry Jam Stage as well as a variety of fun and interactive arts activities and workshops. And the whole event starts at 10am with a free outdoor yoga class.

FESTIVAL DU BOIS

Saturday and Sunday, Mackin Park, Coquitlam

A weekend of brilliant folk, roots, global and Québécois music from French Canada and beyond. A lively music festival that is fun for all ages.

SCUBA BUNNY MAKES A SPLASH

Saturday and Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm, Vancouver Aquarium

Spring into the Easter season with a brand new attraction at the Vancouver Aquarium. Starting this weekend Scuba Bunny will be making appearances at 1 pm daily. Kids can also take part in a fun-filled scavenger hunt.

WEST COAST AMUSEMENT CARNIVAL IN COQUITLAM

Saturday 12 pm – 11 pm, Sunday 12 pm – 10 pm, Coquitlam Town Centre

Canada’s biggest travelling carnival is back and is coming to Coquitlam! Enjoy fun amusement rides, a great midway and lots of carnival treats.

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY AT MOV

Saturday, Museum of Vancouver

MOV will be offering free admission to families with Neurodiverse Children and have proudly partnered with Spectrum Skateboarding Society to offer families and kids programming and activities throughout the day!

KIDS FIRST SATURDAYS

Saturday, The Polygon Gallery, North Vancouver

Kids First Saturdays is an opportunity for families to create an in-house art project, based on the exhibitions being shown in the Gallery. The projects are geared towards children ranging in age from 4 to 14 years old. Admission is by donation. Time slots are available at 10:00am, 12:15pm, and 2:30pm. Space is limited.

FAMILY DAYS AT THE GARDEN

Saturday 10 am – 3 pm, Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden 

Enjoy crafts, games and activities in the Garden. Plus take part in a family guided tour and calligraphy demonstrations.

VANCOUVER REPTILE EXPO

Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm, East Delta Hall

Okay…if you or your kid happen to be a fan of snakes then this event is for you (not for me). Reptiles, Amphibians, Arachnids and more! Showcasing a wide array of reptile breeders and suppliers all under one roof.

HERRING DAY AT FISHERMAN’S WHARF

Saturday 12 pm – 3 pm, False Creek Fisherman’s Wharf at the entrance to Granville Island

Take part if free, fishy family activities and celebrate the herring that spawn in False Creek and connect with local environmental groups working in and around the creek. The event will include family friendly displays and activities from Sea Smart and Ocean Wise – Youth To Sea.
